Quirktett
Quirktett
Quirktett is a collaboration of four local singers - MaryLynn Gillaspie, Terri Jo Jenkins, John Bertram, and Janine Gastineau, who all dig the vocal jazz concept of such groups as Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, Rare Silk, Lake Street Dive, to mention a few. Their live shows incorporate a living, breathing, and swinging vocal quartet with an exceptional rhythm section of some of the metro area’s top Jazz musicians. Building on the ‘horns with words’ approach, Quirktett’s vocal arrangements are like a horn section complete with both ensemble passages and vocalized solos. In addition to their four-part selections, they perform tunes featuring individual combinations, offering a wide palette of textures and styles.

MaryLynn Gillaspie

MaryLynn was a founding member of the vocal group ‘Rare Silk’. Extensive touring, Jazz Festivals, Grammy nominated recordings, performing alongside many Jazz greats including Freddie Hubbard, Benny Goodman, Richie Cole, among others, gives her a rich history in the Jazz idiom. Her self-produced CD, ‘Starlight’, has received extensive airplay on local Jazz radio station KUVO.

Terri Jo Jenkins

Terri Jo has performed with many Jazz, blues, folk, and a capella groups in the mid-west, and as a soloist across the U.S, Canada, and at the Jazz en Vercor Festival in France. Her songs have been played on radio stations across the country, including nationally on NPR. Her most recent CD release, ‘From This Moment’, has received top reviews as a mix of Jazz and Americana style tunes.

John Bertram

After earning a degree in classical guitar from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, John moved to Colorado in 1989, where he became involved in the local Jazz, blues, and bluegrass scenes, both as guitarist and vocalist. He also studied with Longmont-based Jazz guitarist and educator Dale Bruning. He currently is a member of The Sweet Spot Trio, a vocal trio based in Boulder County Area. His influences draw from a wide range of genres and styles.

Janine Gastineau

Multi-genre vocalist Janine Gastineau sings Jazz & standards in English, Brazilian bossa nova & samba in Portuguese, and Chanson in French. She has also created & performed several original musical revues, celebrating the music of Stephen Sondheim, Joni Mitchell, and Rodgers & Hart. Currently Janine studies at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music, earning her Masters in Music: Jazz Performance.
